A Directive has been issued by Calcutta High Court for private schools in West Bengal on 18th August, 2020 on the matter of related to school fees. The order covers as many as 150 schools in the state. As per the directive, the following documents/details have been called for:
a) Financial Statements (income and expenditure as per the format enclosed in the order) from January 2020 to July 2020
b) Corresponding figures from January 2019 to July 2019
c) Declaration from regular auditors
d) Affidavit from Management (as per the format enclosed in the order)
Team NGOenabler have come up with a compilation on the same with their observations and opinion.
As this matter has been in limelight since the lockdown, it seems that even other states might also come up with something similar for the schools under their jurisdiction.
However, in our opinion, sometime later this year, considering the importance of the matter, as this issue has been raised nation-wide by all the parents, it seems that this matter will have to ultimately settled by the verdict of Supreme Court, which shall be in the best interest of all stakeholders, whether they are parents, school management, students , teachers or any other person attached with the functioning of the schools.
